This past year I was gifted an old Canon AE-1 camera by a really good friend. It sat for awhile on display in my office (collecting a vast amount of, what I call Chicago dust - a nice dark grotesque black dust.) While contemplating what equipment to bring to Cambodia and trying to keep it simple, I thought, perhaps I'd shoot film again. So, I bought some batteries, some film and shot a test roll to see if the little guy still worked. Why not?!?
He traveled with me around Chicago for a few days and then to the Dominican Republic. To say the least, I thoroughly enjoyed shooting with it. It brought me back to my "photo" days - forced me to slow down and consciously evaluate what I was seeing before clicking the shutter.
With time not being on my side, I sent my half shot "test" roll to get developed last week. This morning I got the scans back.
Are they perfect, No. Do I love them, Yes. They make me smile. I'm sold. Film it is.
One body. One lens. Numerous rolls of film.
